Neither Rain, Nor Sleet, Nor Hail, Nor High Winds, Nor Dark Of Night Shall Stay Us From Camping.
Topaz from Topaz Mountain
We would like to thank http://topazmountainadventures.com/ for the opportunity we had of visiting with them. We learned a lot about how to find crystals down there. For future scouting groups, contact them and see about the Scout discounts. They are amazing.
Preparing for dinner.
Then, we had to tie walls (made of tarp) onto the sides as the wind kept blowing our stoves out. Then, the hail started. Then the rains. It was amazing. We had so much fun.
The next day, we had to dry everything out.
Let's get breakfast going and start rock hunting.
After doing some rock hunting, the leaders say it's time to relax while the scouts make lunch and work on their geology and insect study merit badges - great idea!!!
This is a plant in Utah that you can make Brigham's Tea from (just like the original Mormon pioneers).
More searching for Topaz.
And even more searching.
Despite our best efforts and going to places where Topaz had been mined before, we got skunked. So we decided to stop by http://topazmountainadventures.com/ and see what their organization was. Rhonda was awesome and invited us to come back there when we had more time. She gave each of us a few Topaz crystals to take home. We are planning on heading back there this fall to do a service project for her.
